“Poker Training for the blind...

When an uneducated in poker person walks into a room filled with poker professionals, dealers, tables and is greeted with the words, it’s easy a feeling of “oh my word, what am I doing here?” the worlds eyes seem focussed on how useless you think you are. My initial thought was so far off I can barely explain.
What an evening, All Africa Poker has opened my eyes to a world of skill and with the simple practical explanation of the world of poker, I am officially addicted!
The evening started with a light introduction to the skill of poker, my table filled with people who were slightly more versed in poker, and my eyes bulging from the fear of what I entered myself for... With professional poker trainers on hand to advise what the best route is, it started seeming less intimidating. After three hands the bug bit and bets got higher, to my delight, I wiped out a player by taking a chance, he was not impressed, but very complimentary that I took the risk and with his all in I managed to take him out with a three of a kind hand. It felt like I had just won the whole training tournament, which was great.
Even though I did not win the evening, I now have no fear for the game and will be playing regularly, hopefully I will see you at a table soon for a showdown, what a great evening, thanks All Africa Poker, I feel far more comfortable and ready to learn more about this fantastic game!”

Due to the huge success of the previous poker training parties that Piggs Peak, home of All Africa Poker have hosted in the past, the promotion was brought back but with a bang … funny man Barry Hilton made his poker debut. Barry “the cousin” Hilton was joined by Alex Jay and the Yfm twins Ntando and Hlelo Masina for poker training from The All Africa Poker Channel commentators, Ryan Dreyer, Ryan Brauer and David Dadic. The “Win A Poker Party with Barry Hilton” promotion was run over The All Africa Poker Channel, poker magazines, radio stations - Highveld, KFM and TUKS as well as over the internet and drew a large response, but unfortunately there could only be one, well not quite. Piggs Peak home of All Africa Poker decided to up the ante and extended the prizes to 3 winners who got to bring eight of their friends to join in for the poker training evening which was held on the the 28 August 2008. Congratulations to the following winner’s: Charles Gildenhuys, Jolyon Ellis and Jacques Liebenberg. Archie Els, the winner of the “Win A Seat to the R3,000,000 All Africa Poker Tournament” promotion that was run on Highveld in June/July, was also in attendance and got to share some of his experience of the tournament which was held from the 14th to 17th August 2008 at Piggs Peak, Swaziland. Archie did extremely well for his first tournament but it was Darren Kramer who walked away victorious and won the top prize of R1 Million Rand. For those who are up to Africa’s greatest poker challenge, the next R3,500,000 All Africa Poker Tournament will be held from 13 – 17 November 2008 at Piggs Peak Hotel and Casino, Swaziland. The Main Event prize winner receives R1 Million and there are nine packages to the 2009 Aussie Millions in Melbourne valued at R150,000 up for grabs. Its time to surmount the final hurdle. The hard work is done and now the two survivors will battle it out for the prestige that comes with being an All Africa Poker Champion. The stuffed pig that comes with the champagne and the cheque often means more as a talking (bragging) point than any other part of the tournament. The money as has become tradition know rests on the table between the finalists.
Good Luck to Jay and Darren, both are worthy opponents.
The chip count puts Darren ahead with 1,835,000 chips to Jay’s 1,160,000
Hand 104: Darren draws first blood with a raise.
Hand 105: Jay takes his chips back
