Rank of Texas Holdem Poker
Here is a helping hand to start your Texas Hold’em poker adventure. A Texas Holdem is based on a poker hand which consists of five cards. See the rank of hands below
How the hand is made up:
A hand comprises of the player’s whole cards used in conjunction with community cards which are on the table. The rank of Texas Holdem hands is listed below from highest rank to lowest rank. Any hand in a higher rank beats any hand in a lower rank (so for example any three of a kind beats any two pairs). Between hands in the same category, the rank of the individual cards decides which is better ie. the higher cards win – a Pair of 10’s beat a Pair of 8’s.
Royal Flush - An Ace-High straight of one suit.
Straight Flush - A straight of entirely one suit.
Four-of-a-Kind (Quads) - Four cards of the same rank.
Full House (Full Boat, Boat) - Three-of-a-kind and a pair. The example below would be called "Kings over Aces".
Flush - Five cards of the same suit.
Straight - Five cards of sequential rank.
Three-of-a-Kind (Trips, Set) - Three cards of the same rank.
Two Pair - Two cards of the same rank and another two cards of the same rank. The example below would be called "Aces and Sevens".
One Pair - Two cards of the same rank.
High Card - When you don't have any of the above, your highest card determines your hand. The example below would be "King High" or "High card King".
